My groups book Review on Billy Nye's: Undeniable
“Undeniable” by Bill Nye, sheds light on one of the most questioned subjects of all time; “Where did we come from?” There has been many theories, ideas, inferences, and predictions but Bill Nye strives to fully prove his theory. By use of the planet's history, ecology, biodiversity, and geography, Bill Nye strives to change the mindset of this world to acceptance of this almost proven law. However, we disliked his writing style and many of his “justifications.” Below, you will find the main ideas of the book, our opinions on those topics, as well as fact we found intriguing.
To start with, we will explain some of the main ideas that Bill Nye developed in order to prove his overall point. We feel that his chapter on fossils and “the Tube” in England were the most influential and concrete to prove the theory of evolution. Bill Nye explained how fossils are the keys to uncovering a common ancestor. He also talked about the abundance and diversity of fossils found in the Burgess Shale. Some were found from 500 million years ago. Many of these fossils unlock the past where we can then make educated inferences on where we came from. The last and final point was how mosquitos were evolving and observed by scientists to prove evolution occurs which we will describe in the next paragraph.
There were many intriguing facts talked about in this novel. Most of them were included to attempt to back Bill Nye's argument against the creationist ideas. One of the most interesting was the section on a tube in England. This was not any ordinary tube, it was one designed to observe mosquitos and the changes they undergo. It was seen that within a matter of days that mosquitos could evolve into whole new species. It started there with just two mosquitos of the same species, but in time there were more and more species. This further proves the point that evolution is true. We think that this was smart of Bill Nye to include in his book. It gives solid, tangible evidence that can be observed today. It backs up his argument very nicely and gives the audience a good reason to believe him. Unfortunately this was one of the few solid evidences we observed while reading the book.
Our overall opinion on this book was very low. The author attempted to argue a scientific theory that he believed in, but strayed away from the purpose of the book much to often. If this book were to be displayed as an autobiography rather than an informational book
“Undeniable” by Bill Nye is overall an alright book, but could have been much better had Nye took some time away from talking about himself to give some new and surprising facts. It was very well supported with evidence, but purposed wrong. In the end, “Undeniable” by Bill Nye was not what it could’ve been.
