Stafford Lake: Alternative Assignment
Project 1: Aramburu Island Shoreline Protection and Ecological Enhancement Project
This project was constructed by the Marin County Parks Organization in order to protect the Aramburu Island reserve. This reserve is 17 acres large in richardson bay. The island was made artificially by extra dirt and sediment from nearby dredges. A problem with the island is that from waves constantly bombarding the shore up to 6 feet of erosion can happen a year. Lots of animals began using the island as refuge from an oil spill in 2007. The project worked on providing and protecting a good habitat for these animals to live in and thrive in. The construction was completed in 2012.
Project 2: Castro Park playground restoration
This park is located in Santa Venetia. At first this park was used as a little league baseball field, it was eventually abandoned. In 2003 the organization renovated the park and added new playground equipment. The total area of the park is now 1.5 acres. Marin Parks has started to talk about renovating once again in the coming years.
Project 3: Integrated Pest Management
This project was put together all over where Marin Parks can control. It was designed to control pests. With controlling the pests that preside in our local area, and keeping them at a healthy level their goal was to do many things. First of all the loss of plants, crops, or different animals can be minimized. Another goal was to keep the methods of removing these pests clean. The decrease in use of harmful pesticides was one ordinance of the project and protects our food and water from contaminated material.
Project 4: Mcnears Beach Park
This park is located in San Rafael is 55 acres large. The main uses of this park are swimming, fishing, and picnicking. Lots of the facilities walkways and structures of the park are becoming weathered. The project is to renovate the park with all new facilities and get it up to date so visitors can have an optimal experience while going there.
